Τα πρώτα Hands-On reviews για το ipad 2.
Τα πρώτα hands-on reviews του iPad 2 ξεκίνησαν να δημοσιεύονται από μεγάλα websites του χώρου και media που έχουν πρόσβαση στο τελευταίο δημιούργημα της Apple πριν αυτό γίνει επίσημα διαθέσιμο στο κοινό (11 Μαρτίου για Αμερική και 26 Μαρτίου για Ελλάδα). Ευκαιρία λοιπόν να ενημερωθούμε και για κάποια χαρακτηριστικά του iPad 2 τα οποία δεν γνωρίζαμε, όπως πόση μνήμη RAM διαθέτει, στα πόσα MHz είναι χρονισμένος ο νέος A5 επεξεργαστής αλλά και τι ανάλυση διαθέτει η πίσω κάμερα.Οι πρώτες εντυπώσεις είναι πολύ θετικές με τους περισσότερους reviewrs να ανακηρύσσουν το iPad 2 νικητή στην μάχη με τα ανταγωνιστικά tablets ενώ οι ενστάσεις επικεντρώνονται γύρω από την έλλειψη Flash και την χαμηλή ποιότητα της κάμερας, ένα χαρακτηριστικό το οποίο έτσι και αλλιώς έχει μειωμένη χρηστικότητα σε ένα tablet (βιντεοκλήσεις, σκανάρισμα barcode κτλ) καθώς κανείς δεν περιμένει να βγάζει φωτογραφίες κρατώντας ένα tablet.
Το συμπέρασμα που προκύπτει από τα περισσότερα reviews είναι ότι το iPad 2 θα επαναλάβει τον περσινό θρίαμβο, παρά την αύξηση του αριθμού των ανταγωνιστικών υλοποιήσεων, και θα κατακτήσει ολοκληρωτικά την αγορά των tablets.

Ο Walt Mossberg βρίσκει ευχάριστες τις αλλαγές στο νέο μοντέλο της Apple και το προτείνει ανεπιφύλακτα σε όλους τους απλούς χρήστες (nontechie), οι οποίοι και αποτελούν την μερίδα του λέοντος στην αγορά:
“For most average, nontechie users, I would recommend it over the handful of tablet competitors I’ve tested so far, especially given that the entry price remains attractive,”Σύμφωνα με τον Mossberg το iPad 2 διαθέτει την σωστή ισορροπία ανάμεσα στο μέγεθος, την χρηστικότητα και την τιμή διατηρώντας την απόσταση από τον ανταγωνισμό σε ασφαλή επίπεδα, ωστόσο προτρέπει τους χρήστες του iPad 1st gen να μην βιαστούν να αποκτήσουν το iPad 2 καθώς δεν διαθέτει επαναστατικές διαφορές:
“The iPad 2, in my view, offers an excellent balance of size, functionality and price, and keeps Apple ahead in the tablet race, at least for now,”Ο Mossberg συνεχίζει αναφέροντας ότι το iPad 2 είναι αισθητά ελαφρύτερο στο χέρι με άμεση ανταπόκριση, ενώ σε αντίθεση με τα Android tablet που έχει δοκιμάσει δεν κράσαρε ποτέ (!). Οι φωτογραφίες που τραβάει το iPad 2 κρίνονται μέτριες ενώ η έλλειψη Flash και υποστήριξης 4G δικτύων κρίνονται αρνητικά.
Παρόλα αυτά (camera, Flash, 4G) o Mossberg δηλώνει ότι το iPad 2 μπορεί κάλλιστα να προταθεί ως το καλύτερο tablet για τον μέσο καταναλωτή:
“can comfortably recommend it as the best tablet for average consumers.”The New York Times
Ο David Pogue γράφει για το iPad 2 ότι κάνει το Motorola Xoom να μοιάζει “παχύσαρκο” και κρίνει την συσκευή με βάση το συνολική εμπειρία που δίνει στον χρήστη και όχι με βάση τα χαρακτηριστικά του αναφέροντας ότι αν και αναμένονται δεκάδες ανταγωνιστικές υλοποιήσεις στην αγορά των tablet, το iPad 2 θα κυριαρχήσει γιατί κερδίζει στα σημαντικότερα σημεία: Πάχος, βάρος, ολοκληρωμένη εμπειρία χρήσης, σχεδιασμό και εφαρμογές.
“the iPad will still dominate the market, because it dominates in all the most important criteria: thinness, weight, integration, beauty — and apps.”Σύμφωνα με τον Pogue, οι χαμηλές τιμές τις οποίες κατάφερε να διατηρήσει η Apple θα βοηθήσουν να ανοίξει η ψαλίδα με τον ανταγωνισμό:
“the iPad 2 actually costs less than its comparably equipped Android rivals, like the Xoom and the Samsung Galaxy Tab”Associated Press
Η Rachel Metz γράφει ότι η Apple με το iPad 2 απομακρύνετε ακόμα περισσότερο από τον ανταγωνισμό παρά τις προσπάθειες που καταβάλει αυτός με τα ανταγωνιστικά tablet.
Η νέα σχεδίαση κρίνεται πολύ θετικά καθώς η συσκευή κάθεται καλύτερα στο χέρι ενώ η προσθήκη οπίσθιας/εμπρόσθιας κάμερας είναι ευχάριστη προσθήκη αν και η λήψη φωτογραφιών κρίνεται άβολη λόγο του μεγέθους του tablet.
Το GarageBand app στο iPad 2 ενθουσίασε την Metz με την ευκολία χρήσης και τον τρόπο που εκμεταλλεύεται την touchscreen:
“I was wowed by how simple it was and how well it took advantage of the iPad’s touch screen.”Αν και η Metz θα ήθελε ακόμα ένα ηχείο βρίσκει ότι το μοναδικό ηχείο του iPad 2 παράγει καθαρό ήχο ακόμα και με την ένταση στο τέρμα:
“did sound quite crisp, even with the sound turned all the way up.”Το συμπέρασμα της Metz είναι ότι το iPad 2 αποτελεί χωρίς αμφιβολία μία σπουδαία υλοποίηση και παροτρύνει όσους αναζητούν tablet να το αποκτήσουν:
“Chances are, it will be the best tablet in town — at least until the iPad 3 arrives”SlashGear
O Vincent Nguyen δοκιμάζει το iPad 2 στο και αποτελέσματα είναι ευχάριστα καθώς τα νούμερα είναι σχεδόν διπλάσια από αυτά του iPhone 4 και του iPad 1st gen:
We turned to Geekbench, a synthetic test of processor and memory performance, comparing the new iPad 2 with its predecessor and the iPhone 4. The iPad 2 scored 749 overall with its dual-core chip and 512MB of RAM, almost double the iPhone 4 – at 377 – with a single-core processor and the same amount of memory. The first-gen iPad – with the single-core processor and 256MB of memory – scored 453 under iOS 4.2; strangely, after upgrading to iOS 4.3, that actually dropped slightly, to 448.
Even a year after its launch, the original iPad consistently held rivals and upstarts at arms-length across most of the key metrics. Challengers fell short of its battery life, couldn’t match its pricing, struggled with usability and floundered in the absence of a well-stocked App Store and huge developer support. Yes, there were flaws and omissions, but Apple was still the company to beat in the fledgling consumer tablet segment.
On most levels, then, the iPad 2 over-delivers. By boosting speed and graphics performance while simultaneously slimming down the chassis and preserving battery life, Apple has maintained its core strengths and extended its lead in what are arguably the toughest areas rivals faces

Ο Edward C. Baig γράφει για το iPad 2 ότι είναι αρκετά ελαφρύτερο και “κάθεται” καλύτερα στο χέρι, ωστόσο θα προτιμούσε (όπως όλοι μας) μία καλύτερης ανάλυσης οθόνη:

Ο Joshua Topolsky μετά από την καθιερωμένη παράθεση των χαρακτηριστικών (Νέο A5 επεξεργαστή, 512MB RAM, 2 κάμερες, γυροσκόπιο κ.τ.λ.) αναφέρεται στην βελτιωμένη αίσθηση που αφήνει το iPad 2 όταν το κρατάς, ένα σημείο που έχουν παρατηρήσει όλοι όσοι το δοκίμασαν:
Pictures don’t quite do the iPad 2 justice — it feels really, really great in your hands. Not only does the construction give it a feeling of heft and permanence, but the thin profile combined with the new, tapered edges make holding the device a real joy.Η απόδοση του iPad 2 είναι εμφανώς βελτιωμένη σε σχέση με το iPad 1st gen, κάτι που φαίνεται και από τα Geekbench tests τα οποία επίσης μας αποκαλύπτουν ότι ο επεξεργαστής είναι χρονισμένος στα 800MHz (;):
The CPU and graphics performance of this tablet felt extremely impressive to us — the iPad 2 performed excellently no matter what we threw at it, games and graphically taxing apps seemed to have higher frame rates, and even when dealing with CPU intensive programs like GarageBand, it rarely (if ever) seemed to be struggling.

Let’s just put this out there: the iPad 2 cameras are really pretty bad. They’re not unusable, but it’s clear that the sensors employed are not top shelf by any measure. If you have a fourth generation iPod touch with cameras, you can expect the same results. It might frustrate the competition to hear this, but it needs to be said: the iPad 2 isn’t just the best tablet on the market, it feels like the only tablet on the market.
As much as we’d like to say that something like the Xoom has threatened Apple’s presence in this space, it’s difficult (if not impossible) to do that. Is the iPad 2 a perfect product? Absolutely not. The cameras are severely lacking, the screen — while extremely high quality — is touting last year’s spec, and its operating system still has significant annoyances, like the aggravating pop-up notifications.
At a price point of $499, and lots of options after that (like more storage and models that work on both Verizon’s and AT&T’s 3G networks), there’s little to argue about in the way of price, and in terms of usability, apps like GarageBand prove that we haven’t even scratched the surface of what the iPad can do.
